DIY 20 Minute Transformation: Trashcan to Rain Barrel!
6th Oct 2015
Want to get started saving water but don’t want to break the bank? The Rain Barrel Depot can help! Our RainRecycle Rain Barrel Kit can turn any large container into a functioning rain barrel.
Sound too good to be true? Watch and see how we transformed this 45-gallon basic grey trashcan into a working rain barrel in less than 20 minutes!
Supplies Needed:
- Trashcan or other large barrel with a lid
We used a 45 gallon trashcan made by Atlanta’s Rubbermaid Corporation which cost us around $40.
The RainRecycle rain barrel kit contains everything that you will need to build a rain barrel including a flex fit diverter, spigot, bulkhead connector and connection tube.
- Downspout
A good rule of thumb is that 1” of rain over 1000 square feet of roof will yield 660 gallons of rainwater. You can also join two or more rain barrels together for maximum rainwater harvesting!
